Sometimes raising chickens can be the stepping stone to bigger and better things as our women farmers use their income, skills and confidence to develop a new business enterprise.
This is just what Jhuma has done. Having started raising chickens in 2016 to pay for basic household expenses, she began to use some of her income to help her husband start another small enterprise. They are making and packaging potato crisps and selling them at the local train station. Here’s what she told us about her new life…
I am extremely happy with the extra income in the family. My husband helps me in both raising chickens and making potato chips and we are more friends now! Thank you!
