Kadam Ray
Like so many women living in rural West Bengal, Kadam Ray had no opportunity to work in her village and the family struggled to make ends meet. She decided to join our Poultry Development Services programme in 2016 so she could earn a small income to help feed the family, including her young daughter.
We met her in July 2018 and, as you can see from the photo, she has been raising ducks recently as well as chickens. The monsoon arrives in Bengal in June and lasts until September and during the months of heavy rain ducks are a good choice for her growing enterprise!
Kadam is delighted with the programme. She is particularly pleased that her new source of income helps to pay for the family’s needs and her daughter is enjoying a healthy diet of eggs and chicken. Encouraged by her success she is now keen to start raising goats.
