Basani Ray
Basanti joined us in 2016 and has chosen to raise ducks rather than chickens. Like so many of our women farmers, she was desperate to earn some extra money to support her family as her husband’s meagre income from working as an agricultural labourer was simply not enough to feed the household of five people. Basanti is selling her produce at the local market and to neighbours in the village and is very happy to be earning her own money. It has given her confidence and made her feel very positive about herself and also about the future. She’s heard about our goat farming programme and is very keen to get involved. We asked her for a comment about her experience of Poultry Development Services and she simply said, “Long live Shivia!” And we’re happy with that!
