Nirdhan’s Annual Day Celebrations

Tomorrow, 23rd August, marks the 6th anniversary of the foundation of our organisation in India, Nirdhan.  To mark the occasion the directors are hosting an evening reception to showcase the work we are doing in the rural villages of Bengal, helping families lift themselves out of poverty.

There will be 120 guests at the event – local dignitaries, business people, celebrities and other supporters – which includes a presentation of our operations plus first hand accounts from some of our farmers, including Kalyani, one of our featured farmers – click here to take a look.

It promises to be a wonderful and entertaining evening with music and dance and some traditional food and snacks, including momos, Tibetan dumplings which are hugely popular in Bengal and have become ubiquitous across India.

Here at Shivia in the UK we are particularly excited about the event as it also marks the start of Nirdhan’s fundraising activities within India and new chapter for the team in Kolkata. We are extremely proud of all the hard work they have put into organising this event and wish them every success.

Olly is currently on her way to Kolkata to represent Shivia and support Nirdhan tomorrow evening and will report back later this week when she returns  to London with all the news, stories and photos.

We have updated our short video for Nirdhan to show to the guests at the event.  It has all the current facts and figures from our livelihood programmes.  Take a look here…

  • It has been a pleasure to help shine a light on the inspirational work that Shivia does. The team’s passion and determination to make a lasting difference to families living in poverty – and doing so respectfully – is clear in every interaction. By contributing support for their marketing communications and brand identity evolution, we hope that they will be able to empower even more people in the future.

  • Shivia’s work is very impressive - how it is carried out and who the people are working in the locations.  It is a very healthy and together team which is being very effective.

  • "The work Shivia does is simple and yet so life-changing, we’re thrilled to have been part of the charity’s growth story and hope to partner with them for many years to come.”

  • Agri-management Services has the capacity to deliver lasting change for our farmers. I have always felt that the farmers feed our nation while they can hardly afford to feed themselves. What an irony. So if my team and I are able to help farmers earn a sustainable income through agriculture, there’s nothing better than this.

  • I have witnessed first-hand how Shivia has not just changed but transformed people's lives with its livelihood programmes.

  • Alquity supports Shivia because they transform lives by giving people the opportunity to do things themselves and they do it with dignity.
