Our CEO and founder Marc Benioff said “the business of business is improving the state of the world”. Salesforce leverages its technology, people and resources to help improve communities around the world and as an employee I can choose which charity to assist. Shivia, with its mission to empower the poorest to create livelihoods, closely matches our shared vision. It is not enough for software companies to supply their software as smaller charities do not have the IT resource to configure it for themselves. As a solution engineer I can provide pro bono configuration as part of my volunteer time and Shiva’s work helping women to grow their own backyard farming enterprise really appealed to me. I was also impressed with their professional approach to impact measurement to determine how best to spend their money and time in India. Shivia is a charity making a real difference in improving the quality of life for these people by teaching and educating them to become self-sufficient and I was delighted to have the opportunity to use my skills and time to help them become even more cost effective and reach even more people with their practical programmes.
