Saktipada Biswas
Saktipada joined us in 2014, the year we launched our Agri-management Services (AMS) programme in West Bengal. Prior to this he was working as a daily labourer for other local farmers, earning a typical wage of 100 rupees a day (about £1.20). He always had dreams about starting his own small farming enterprise but lacked the skills to start out on his own, so when he heard about AMS and the agricultural training we could offer him he was keen to get involved. Today Saktipada is managing his own banana plantation on a small plot of leased land and has reported that his income has nearly doubled. This has had a big impact on his life – not only can he afford to keep his son in school and pay for some private tuition too, he can now look after his ageing parents at his home. He was very upset when they were living with his older brother who was not caring for them properly. He is delighted to be able to look after them himself now.
Shivia’s AMS programme has given me great knowledge about growing my banana crop and also how to make bio-fertiliser for my land. I have experienced the amazing benefits of low production costs and a high-yielding crop. And my son is over the moon to be with his grandparents once again. I cannot thank you enough for the training and support I have received from you.
