Mr Nawshir Khurody | Shivia Ambassador

 


 

After a brief stint as assistant to Mr. H. Holck-Larsen, the founder of Larsen & Toubro, Mr. Khurody entered the Tata Administrative Service (TAS) in January 1960, with postings in the steel, tea and engineering interests of the Tata Group. He was engaged with India’s first green-leaf Instant Tea Project, in South India, moving on to start and Head International operations for Voltas Ltd.

From 1977-1983, Mr. Khurody joined the Senior Management Team of a major Qatari company, The Mannai Corporation, heading Engineering, Sales & Projects. Mr. Khurody rejoined TAS in 1983, and took up the Stewardship of the pharmaceutical interests of the Tata Group, heading Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD India), as its President, which converted to Merind Ltd, before being sold.

In 1997, he was asked to head Voltas Ltd., and bring it back to sustainable & profitable growth. After retirement as Managing Director of Voltas, he continued on the Board till 2011. Mr. Khurody has also been a member of the Apex Strategic Management Group, set up by Mr. Ratan Tata.

Mr. Khurody has sat on the Boards of several companies. He currently serves on a few Boards and works on specific advisory assignments, to help corporates move to the next level towards global sustainability.

He also undertakes coaching assignments, chiefly at Levels 1 and 2 of Management with many large and small companies, some family-owned, and also public-sector companies. He is also associated, closely, in an advisory capacity with the Shapoorji Pallonji Group of Companies, other corporates and NGOs.

Mr. Khurody holds a Master of Arts Degree in Economics (Hons.) from Trinity College, Cambridge University in 1958. He currently lives in Mumbai and is an avid reader and enjoys nature walks and classical music.
