Shivia Venquis Fundraising Event, November 2012, London

Please all put the evening of Thursday 8th November 2012 in your diary for Shivia’s Big Event of the Year: to celebrate Diwali – the Indian Festival of Light. Shivia will again team up with Venquis to hold our annual fundraising event at China White. Further details to follow.

Shivia Diwali Event, London

In October 2011 Shivia teamed up with Venquis, the Business Transformation Recruiter, to host a Diwali fundraising night. The event was a huge success, with 100 people turning out to support us and raising ￡6,000. We are especially grateful to those who donated items for our auction. We are excited about turning this into an Annual Event to be held every October / November in partnership with Venquis. Please do keep a note in your diary for 2012!

Shivia-2 Water fund-raising event, London

In June 2011, Shivia teamed up with 2 Water, a charity that funds water pumps through wine-tasting events. 2 Water decided to support Shivia’s work in Nepal where our borrowers often walk up to 7 hours per day in search of clean water. The event raised funds for two pumps. We were delighted with the turn out and grateful to 2 Water and its CEO, Diana Isac, who organised the event, Tim Atkin who hosted the evening (Master of Wine) and Barnaby Parker (CEO, Venquis) who ran the auction.

DLA Piper organise Dubai fund-raiser

The law firm, DLA Piper ME, organised a fund-raiser in Dubai on 20th April 2011 for companies in their building in Emaar Square to attend. DLA Piper sold goods made by local artisans in West Bengal and donated all proceeds to Shivia, raising a total of £915. We are particularly grateful to Wafa Tarnowska, DLA Piper CSR Manager Middle East, who organised the event with great warmth and enthusiasm.

People of Nepal

Garlinda Birkbeck visited Western Nepal with Olly Donnelly (Executive Director) in March 2009. Garlinda held a photographic exhibition, "People of Nepal", on 9th-11th February at Indar Pasricha's gallery, 22 Connaught Street, London. Garlinda donated all proceeds from the photographs and postcards to Shivia and raised over £12,000. House of Lords

In February 2009, we held our official launch at the House of Lords where we invited a wide range of friends, old and new. Amongst guests were Lord Mervyn Davies, Lord and Lady Sheikh, Baroness Flather and Lord Matthew Evans. We had support from all our UK pro-bono teams including Clifford Chance, EFG Private Bank and Portland PR. Jayanta Roy, President of SARS, attended the event and spoke about the power of microfinance at a grass-roots level. Bang and Olufsen kindly donated a limited Beo Sound System for us to auction.
